Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Orange County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and a driver who fled the scene.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:41 am, a 2022 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Oak Ridge Road, approaching the intersection of South John Young Parkway in the inside lane.
At the same time, a 27-year-old Altamonte Springs man riding a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycle was traveling northbound on South John Young Parkway, approaching Oak Ridge Road in the center lane.
As they approached, the first vehicle's driver came to a stop at the intersection for the red traffic light. The motorcyclist continued through the intersection. The first vehicle was on the motorcycle's direct path, and they collided.
Due to the impact, the motorcyclist was thrown off the motorcycle.
The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene on foot, but a passenger (a 46-year-old Ocoee woman) was uninjured and remained on scene.
The motorcyclist was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center and pronounced deceased.
Troopers interviewed the passenger, and the crash is still under investigation, along with the identity of the driver. He is described as a black male wearing a black shirt, tan pants, and white shoes. Investigators have secured the vehicle as evidence.
