Breaking News Overnight: FHP arrests driver on DUI manslaughter charges after fatal collision in DeSoto County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in DeSoto County that resulted in a driver's death and the arrest of the other.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:54 pm a sport utility vehicle driven by a 37-year-old Arcadia man was traveling north on State Road 31, south of Southeast North Hog Bay Extension.

At the same time, another SUV was traveling south on State Road 31, south of Southeast North Hog Bay Extension.

As they approached, the first SUV traveled onto the southbound travel lane and entered the path of the second vehicle, and they collided.

After the crash, both vehicles overturned.

The driver of the second SUV was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver of the first SUV, Alejandro Sanchez Maqueda, age 37, of Arcadia, was placed under arrest for DUI Manslaughter and DUI property damage and booked into the Desoto County Jail.

The FHP did not release the name of the deceased driver.
