Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after two-vehicle collision in Lake County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake County last night that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:10 pm, a 2021  Buick Enclave driven by a 66-year-old Crystal River woman was traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike south of State Road 19 (Mile Marker 283) in the inside lane.

At the same time, a 2015 Toyota RAV-4 driven by an 82-year-old Fruitland Park man was traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike south of SR-19 in the inside lane behind the first vehicle.

As the first vehicle approached a slight curve to the right, the driver failed to negotiate it and entered the inside paved shoulder. As a result, the front left of the vehicle struck the concrete traffic barrier. This impact caused the vehicle to rotate and collide with the outside shoulder concrete barrier. The vehicle was then re-directed into the direct path of the second vehicle, and they collided.

The driver of the first vehicle was transported to Leesburg Regional Hospital and pronounced deceased. According to the report, the second vehicle's driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
