Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:26 pm, a 2021 Ford F-150 driven by an 81-year-old Daytona Beach man was stopped, facing south on a driveway on State Road 40 (Granada Boulevard) east of Shadow Crossings Boulevard.

At the same time, a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by a male 16-year-old Ormond Beach resident was traveling westbound on SR-40 east of Shadow Crossings Blvd.

As they approached, the first vehicle attempted to make a left turn and travel east on SR-40, failed to observe the second vehicle, came into its direct path, and collided.

After the collision, the second vehicle overturned onto the median.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Halifax Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
