Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after two-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:50 pm, a 2022 Toyota Corolla driven by a 64-year-old Pierson man was traveling westbound on State Road 44, approaching Cucumber Lane near Samsula in the outside lane.
At the same time, a dump truck driven by a 63-year-old Ormond Beach man was traveling westbound on SR-44, approaching Cucumber Lane in the outside lane.
As they approached, the dump truck was ahead of the Corolla, which was traveling above the posted speed limit, according to the report, and failed to slow down for the dump truck. As a result, it collided with the rear of the dump truck.
The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. The dump truck driver reported no injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers.
