Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after three-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:05 pm Saturday, a 2017 Nissan Versa Note was disabled and parked on the outside shoulder of State Road 15A (North Spring Garden Avenue).

At the same time, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 46-year-old DeLeon Springs man stopped in the outside lane to check on the occupants of the Nissan. A 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 39-year-old Deltona man was traveling northbound on State Road 15A and failed to stop for the Chevy stopped ahead. As a result, the vehicles collided.

The impact caused the Chevy to collide with the Nissan.

The Hyundai driver was transported to AdventHealth DeLand and pronounced deceased. The driver of the Chevy and a passenger (a 43-year-old DeLeon Springs woman) reported minor injuries to the FHP.

The Nissan was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers.
