Breaking News Overnight: Bicyclist hit and killed by pickup truck in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:49 am, a 73-year-old DeLand man driving a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Old New York Avenue approaching the intersection of Euclid Avenue.
At the same time, a 38-year-old DeLand man riding a bicycle was traveling southbound on Euclid Avenue, approaching the intersection of Old New York Avenue.
As they advanced, the pickup truck made a right turn to travel north on Euclid. The bicyclist ran the stop sign and swerved left in the direct path of the first vehicle, which swerved right, attempting to avoid a collision. As a result, the pickup struck the bicycle.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.
The driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the bicyclist.
