Two people were killed early Friday morning when their pickup truck collided with a construction street sweeper on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:40 am near Fletcher Avenue.
FHP reported that a GMC Sierra was traveling southbound on I-75 as a construction street sweeper traveled ahead of it in the outside lane. The pickup overtook the street sweeper and struck its rear.
Both occupants of the GMC Sierra suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately available.
The street sweeper’s operator, a 46-year-old Brandon man, suffered minor injuries.
FHP continues to investigate the crash.
