Breaking Morning News: Pedestrian hit and killed by two vehicles in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Sumter County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:52 a.m.,  a Land Rover Range Rover, driven by a 42-year-old Leesburg man, was traveling westbound on SR-44. 

At the same time, a cement truck, driven by a 29-year-old Leesburg man, was traveling westbound on SR-44 behind the first vehicle. 

East of CR-229, an unknown male pedestrian attempted to walk across SR-44, entered the path of the two vehicles, and was struck by both in successive order.  

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. 

 The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
