Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a five-vehicle collision this morning in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:27 am,  a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle, a 2004 Honda Shadow VLX motorcycle, a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV, a 2021 Kia Rio sedan, and a 2025 Nissan Sentra sedan were all traveling northbound on US-1 north of Rocway Drive. The motorcycle was ahead of the first vehicle; the third vehicle was ahead of the motorcycle in the inside lane; and the fourth and fifth vehicles were in the center lane.

As they advanced, the motorcycle and the third, fourth, and fifth vehicles slowed for traffic ahead, but the first vehicle failed to see the motorcycle slowing and collided with it.

After the collision, the first vehicle continued traveling north and struck the third vehicle, while the motorcycle slid and collided with the fourth vehicle. Debris from the collision struck the fifth vehicle.

The drivers of the first (a 52-year-old Melbourne man), fourth (a 39-year-old Melbourne man), and fifth (a 63-year-old Melbourne woman) vehicles reported no injuries to the FHP, according to the report.

The motorcyclist (a 60-year-old Melbourne woman) and driver of the third vehicle (a 36-year-old Melbourne woman) were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center. The motorcyclist was later pronounced deceased.
