A 22-year-old Groveland man was killed Wednesday morning when his car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on State Road 33 in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:01 am north of Edgewood Boys Ranch Road. Troopers said the Groveland man was driving a 2005 Ford Five Hundred south in the northbound lane of State Road 33.

A 47-year-old Riverview man was driving a 2012 Mack tractor-trailer north on the highway. According to the crash report, the truck driver swerved right to avoid the wrong-way car, but the vehicles collided front to front.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer’s trailer to overturn onto its right side on the outside shoulder. The car’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was transported to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

FHP reported that the car’s driver was not wearing a seat belt. The tractor-trailer driver was restrained.

The crash remains under investigation.
