Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after head-on collision in Lake County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:23 am, a 1994 dump truck driven by a 28-year-old Leesburg man was traveling northbound on County Road 439 north of County Road 44A. At the same time, a 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by a 23-year-old Altoona woman was traveling southbound on CR-439 south of CR-44A.
As he approached, the dump truck driver observed that traffic had stopped ahead. He attempted to brake but veered into the southbound lane, directly in the path of the second vehicle. As a result, the two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Waterman Hospital and pronounced deceased. The first vehicle's driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the drivers' names involved in the collision.
