Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Citrus County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Citrus County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:50 am, a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by an 85-year-old Homosassa man, was traveling northbound on US-19. 

At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 48-year-old Ocala man, was traveling southbound on US-19. 

At the intersection of US-98, the first vehicle turned left under a red traffic signal into the path of the second vehicle and was struck.  

Both vehicles traveled to their final rest at the southwest corner of the intersection, where they caught fire. 

The first driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, while the second driver suffered minor injuries and was not transported. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
