Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Citrus County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:31 am, a Chevy Silverado, driven by a 28-year-old Inverness man, was traveling westbound on East Harvard Street.
At the same time, a GMC Sierra, driven by a 29-year-old Inverness man, was traveling southbound on South Apopka Avenue.
At the intersection of the two roadways, the first vehicle failed to yield and entered the path of the second vehicle. As a result, it collided with the passenger side of the first vehicle, which overturned and collided with an electrical pole.
As the Silverado overturned, the unrestrained driver was ejected. Transported to an area hospital, Driver 1 later expired from injuries suffered during the crash, while the second driver was not injured.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
